  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Older buns

Just wondering whether anyone had any tips on how to keep them as fit, healthy and happy for as long as possible?

We had to take Albert (possibly aged 9 or 10 - he's a rescue bun so we don't really know, could be older but probably not too much younger) to the emergency vets last night as he had diarrhoea. It was the first vets appointment where I wasn't raised for keeping him so well and that the vet wasn't amazed that he is as old as he is.

Apparently, he has started to show signs of muscle wastage in his shoulders and between his eyes - which may explain his extreme aversion to flooring that isn't carpet or rough slabs. Anyway, how can I help him to lessen the signs of ageing? Anyone got any tips for caring for an OAB???

like with us all unfortunatley age does catch up with us, i know when rosie got older and had problems the vet gave us a specal vet feed for rabbits it contained glucosamine in it whch should help alittle with muscles etc, think it was called vetmed you would have to ask your vets

We're going for a check up tonight so I'll ask about the special food. Would it be OK for Poppy to have that too? (She's 7)
