  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is he poorly?

We had our bunny out last night for his run around he was fine running and jumping around all over the place I'm 100% certain he hasn't eaten anything he shouldn't have,
But this morning he is just laying around and he hasn't eaten any of his hay or pellets this morning, his pooh's are all normal golden brown and round?
What's wrong with him?

Keep trying to tempt him with food and see if he will eat, otherwise I would go to the vets.

Good luck x

How long should I give him before I take him vet? My other half will be home around 4 with the car or do I need to try get a lift before?

Is he acting normal in himself? Has he been eating hay and drinking water?

Does his tummy feel hard and bloated?

He hasn't eaten anything so far this morning no hay pellets or greens which are all in his cage and I haven't seen him drink yet either,
He is just laying down and his tummy seems fine when I feel it? He is just flopped out

Do you have any treats that you could try to tempt him with? Does he usually eat all his brekkie straight away?

He usually eats everything as soon as it goes in, stealing it out your hand as u are putting it in, I don't have any treats other then his greens ect is there anything likely to be in my cupboards I could try him with,
I just contacted the breeder who told me if he needs antibiotics he will die so it's my risk if I want to take him vets or not!
I'm scared now!

What age is he?

I think that the breeder is talking rubbish!!!!!!!!!

I am gonna cross post for help with this.

His breeder seems really anti vets for some reason told us to contact her with any problems so I have and that's what she said! Not really much help though has just scared me!

how recent are those poos? If he is not eating or drinking by 12/1 I'd be rushing him to the vets

Not eating is very serious in rabbits, thier guts shut down and can be difficult to start up again. He probably wont need Antibiotics, even if he did they wont kill him!

 That breeder is saying if he has antibiotics he will die? What a strange thing to say.. 2 of my rabbits have been on antibiotics a few times and they're 5 so no idea why they should say that :?

What Georgeypudding said though. One of my rabbits stopped eating the other week and we took him to the vets but there was nothing serious and while at the vets I gave him some pellets and hay and he started munching :)

If your bunny hasn't eaten this morning he needs to see a vet urgently.
I would not wait until o/h gets home - can someone give you a lift or can you take a taxi?
Rabbits go downhill extremely quickly so urgent treatment is needed.

good luck, I'd expect you to get some

Metacloprimide and Metacam (gut stimulant and pain killer)
Possibly Zantac

He may possibly need syringe feeding if he doesnt eat soon
