Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
in my garden we get alot of wild rabbits we have seen some with mixy.when we get our rabbit does the mixy vaccine toatally protect my rabbit or does it still have a chance of catching mixy? thankyou for any advice.

It depends which one you get.

The old single vaccine rabbits could still get myxo but in a mild form as it was manufactured from a similar but not identical strain. The new combined vaccine, which includes VHD protection, is made from the actual virus so should provide complete protection.

Not all vets are currently using the new vaccine however and there are still some question marks surrounding it.

What Elena said.

Even with the old vaccine though, you have a much better chance with it than without. All the myxi rabbits I've heard of who have survived have been ones who were vaccinated. The chance of your bunny catching myxi with the vaccine is much lower, but if you have a lot of myxi rabbits about the chances go up again.

Would it be possible for you to bring your own rabbit indoors? House rabbits are great pets if that's an option for you, and it drastically reduces the risk of myxi.

Thanks for your replies.we havent got a rabbit yet still researching and looking into it.would of loved a house rabbit but we dont have the space for one indoors for one.but plenty of space outside we live in the country so have wild rabbits, foxes ect.
