  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

South Essex- anywhere giving new combi vaccine?

I'd like to opt for this as the rabbits hate going to the vets and I do their basic health checks myself. None of the local vets stock the new vaccine and most are saying they haven't even heard of it which is a bit worrying. The cynic in me suspects it's about money as going from 4 rabbits 3 times a year down to a once yearly visit isn't going to earn them more money.

Anyone living in South Essex who has had their rabbits vaccinated, please share with me the name of your practice, thank you. Happy to travel a bit if it cuts down on the visits. Hopefully by next year the practice will be widespread and I can go back to local vets.

Many thanks, Claire

Have you tried South Beech surgery at Wickford? I haven't been there lately, and the vets are completely different, but they used to stay pretty up to date.

Companion Care in Pitsea are offering it for £40. :D

In March I phoned a couple of more local vets to me (Thurrock) about it - both mentioned problems with the VHD side of the vaccination & stated they would only be using it on young bunnies who hasn't been previously vaccinated. From what I can gather though, the VHD issue has been investigated & no longer thought to be an issue so they may well have changed their minds since.

Thanks Sarah, I'll bear that in mind, if there are any closer to me i'll try them first, if not I'll give them a call.
