  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Not so good news for Pebble

Ths iswha we have been told by the vets about Pebble

she’s staying with them for the next 24/48 hours, she’s lost more weight so she only weighs 450g now. She’s got blood in her urine and liver damage but the vet said that might be because she hasn’t been getting the nutrients from her food although she’s been eating loads, she also said sometimes that if she had a bug and the panacur is getting rid that might be the reason for the blood.

She’s being treated for the E.C and coccidia as well. They’ve done a blood test they said they might have to operate on her if she doesn’t get better so they can see what the problem is with her liver but they don’t want to do that because she’s so small, so it’s a last resort.

So upset, really hoping she gets better soon !

Poor Pebble :(

Can I ask what the history is with Pebble and what the vets know?

I only ask because it sounds like a similar presentation to one of mine :(

All we know is that she has had 3 episodes of a poorly tummy, she has always still eaten and drank water but nothing was agreeing with her. The vets gave her gut stimulant and antibiotics the first 2 times and then the 3rd she gave her antibiotics and a worming paste.

They are just trying to find out exactly what it is now, so we are going to see her tonight.

Thank you:)

I spoke to the vets today and the vet Is very pleased with Pebble, she is eating and drinking fine, and taking her meds. We need to ring back tomorrow to see when she can come home. So hopefully she is going to be fine. :D

Well we spoke to the vets again this morning and they said she is doing much better, she has put on weight and eating and drinking fine. They keep saying it must be something at our house she is chewing but there is nothing for her to chew, we have a large storage box full of hay and a bit of sawdust at the bottom on top of newspaper and the same in a small cat litter tray we got from the breeder. we have taken all the toys out to see if it was those but it hasnt stopped so now i am not sure what to do. :?. They are never running around unsupervised so i have no idea what it could be.

She is now home with us but she still isn't herself but the vet said to keep an eye on her and we have another appointment on sat. She is back up to 620grams so she put on all the weight she lost. :D We have got to give her new antibiotics twice a day and panacur once a day. Hopefully she will just keep getting better because of not they will have to operate to see if it's a birth defect in her liver :(
