Help Stop Cruel Rabbit Farming in Europe

Many people are aware about factory farming of chickens and the appalling conditions that they are kept in, but did you know that rabbits are factory farmed in the EU?
Millions of rabbits in the EU are raised in appalling conditions, crammed into bare cages with no more space than a battery hen. Barren battery cages for hens might be banned, but rabbits are still suffering intensely.

Most rabbit meat comes from factory farms, with the average system allowing no more space per rabbit than an A4 piece of paper. The rabbits can't move more than a few inches and they don’t have places to sleep, bedding or any other of the most basic things a rabbit needs.

There is no excuse for rearing rabbits in this brutally cruel manner. One alternative, raising family groups in pens with separate areas for sleeping, nesting, eating and exercise, is already the system for rabbit meat marked as "high welfare".

Please ask the EU to introduce proper welfare standards for rabbits as soon as possible by signing this online petition:

Just wanted to bump this and add a link to the donation page as I've only just seen this.

I'm not actually against eating rabbit in principal; the wild rabbits available from my butcher are a cheap tasty wild meat that have lead a very natural free-range life life and been humanely dispatched.

These farms are light years away. Total cruelty, no regard for animal welfare whatsoever. :(

Agreed. I don't see anything wrong with eating meat. But the way we humans factory farm these poor animals is horrific, plus very unhealthy for us with the things they put into those animals. I would rather go and hunt my own meat then get it from somewhere like that.
