Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Head tilt - and it's NOT EC or ear infection!

This morning my hubby noticed that sapphire was very agitated and when I saw her I saw one thing; head tilt.

Luckily vet could see us and saph was very resistant when she went to look in her left ear (fine with right). Vet said she thought it looked like some kind of polyp or inflammation. She said she'd not seen this before. Anyone else had this?

I've got some metacam which saph is very happy about as it's yummy honey flavour, and we're to go back if she's still tilty on tues, otherwise I am taking her back next sat for a check.

There are other possible causes of head tilt- neurological conditions etc.) but I'm confused as to how the vet has ruled out an ear infection (or E.c. for that matter). Did he/she take swabs from the inflammed ear?

Thanks for your reply, lilbun

Vet gave sapphire metacam and she is much better. I am going to take her back next Saturday (provided no relapses) for her to have a look at it again.

No swabs taken but a very highly recommended bunny savvy vet!

Also, my other bunny Rupert now goes off in a strop when Saph gets her metacam because it's so tasty and he can't have any!!
