  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vaseline for eyes??

Long story but Pixie still has watery eyes. Xrays showed nothing wrong with teeth etc. She had a GA for a total duct flush which hasn't done anything as they are still watering. She is on antibiotic injections every three days as refuses to take baytrill in any form in food or water and at one point stopped eating as it put her right off. The vet said I can put vaseline under her eyes to stop the tears sticking but will this really help. I've been washing her eyes every day and apply cream in her eyes but this still isn't working and they are still sticky and i'm now worried her eyes will become sore if they contine to be wet with tears etc. Is there anything else I can do, I'm pretty destperate as I can't think of anything else I can do to help her. She is also on a drop a day of Ecenachiar (spelling?) which I really hope will help. She has been like this now for two weeks.
xx

I've used vaseline with Grim. His eyes water all the time and sometimes the skin does get dry and sore and it's really helped.
