Little Katie just rescued in time before put to sleep (photo's of Katie's new home)

We just managed to get to the pound at 5:02pm - after it closed at 5pm just in time to save little Katie (as one of the guys has named her). She is such a sweet little rotti. We are not sure if she has any x in her. (Our vets said she doesn't after her vet trip 04/05-she is a pure bred just underweight) She was several days over and there was definitely no option to wait another day as she would have been put to sleep that evening- so we managed to make room for her here.

She is undernourished and you can feel her bones as well as having kennel cough and whimpering so we wonder if other than that she is just traumatized, she may have some kind of injury she is hiding.

We are taking her to the vets today for some meds for her cough and vaccinations next Wednesday after which she will be neutered and receive her second lot of vaccinations before being kenneled. Ideally we are looking for a foster home for her prior to re-homing as the kenneling fees are around £4368.00 per year per dog we help.

We are looking for foster carers who have experience with dogs and can provide a loving temporary home in the intrim between having dogs coming out of the pound and receiving there complete set of vaccinations as we are unable to board them until they are fully upto date with vaccines, which can take several weeks to sort out. If you feel you could help- we have many dogs in desperate need of foster of all types.

We are unable to foster to homes with children under sixteen currently due to the risk involved when dealing with dogs that have come out of the pounds. As the dogs can come out with kennel cough, potential aggression, and other problems- isolation is recommended from other animals. If you would like to help and are in the west yorkshire area- please email rehome@greenleafanimalrescue.org.uk

If you are able to donate anything towards Katie's up and coming veterinary treatment costs- including neutering and vaccinations- please visit our website www.greenleafanimalrescue.org.uk and click on the donate button. Thankyou very much.

Here are some photos of her from yesterday. She was sick in the car on the way back bless her after Luke (who isn't normally involved in rescue transporting) had kindly offered to transport her. He didn't seem to mind thankfully and was quite happy we managed to rescue her in time.

A small video- As the pound were putting to sleep at 5pm-At 4pm we were totally unprepared for her arrival as we had anticipated having a couple of days to get organised. As things happened- we managed to sort out some old blankets and a vet bed (half eaten!!) and a temporary indoor kennel for her next to her own private garden. She really has got a sparkle in her eyes and has a very young puppy energy about her.

She met with another vaccinated dog who she interacted with well and members of the public she was absolutely fine with. She has had some interest already in adoption.

We have no history of Katie sadly- but she knew immediately what a harness is and can sit and rolls over to have her belly rubbed and is happy to lay down and stay. She doesn't understand paw, but walks well on the lead. We haven't tried her off the lead yet- but she is by your side looking for cuddles and affection. She did dash towards one of the farm cats this morning but not aggressively- more just curiously and playfully and we have yet to introduce her to small animals (from a safe distance) to gauge her reaction.

A little video- she is whimpering at the end so had to turn the video off. She is all booked into the vets now for 10:10am so hopefully her kennel cough will clear up quickly with meds and she has no injuries.

She is gorgeous. I'm so glad she got a last minute reprieve and best of luck with finding a foster for her. xx

Aww shes lovely, cant believe she'd just be put down cos no one wanted her :(
Her eyes in that first video look so sad but relieved shes found a home!

She is a beautiful looking dog  It is so sad to think that without your intervention she would no longer be here but I know there will be other less lucky dogs who don't get a second chance  Hope Katie gets a forever home soon.

Yes she is gorgeous, but very frightened- she cried almost the whole walk- so we took her back inside to safety. She seemed happier in built up areas than open spaces-which she whimpers in.

The sound of the other dogs in the pounds is haunting as you leave, knowing their fate.

We have a boxer we need to sort out foster care for before he is put to sleep on Tuesday and a caine terrier who's time is totally up.

We plan to expand this side of the rescue as the situation is so totally desperate for these dogs so foster homes are a godsend as kenneling fees are so high and this limits the amount of dogs we can help at any one time.

Just back from the vets- she is on 2.5 tablets of ronaxan for kennel cough for 7 days and is around 18months but no more. She is thin and malnourished, but otherwise in good health and will be ready for her new home after she is neutered and vaccinated.

She sat for the vets to be weighed and was around 22kg.

Wow she looks younger than that poor little thing. We would take her in a heartbeat if we didnt have the cats

We thought she looked an behaved around 1 year initially when she came out of the pound. I personally wouldn't say more then 1.4 years, and our vets have said no more than 18 months.

She's lovely! I'm so happy that you managed to rescue her- it makes me so sad to think healthy animals are pts :( I hope she responds well to her tablets and that she soon finds her forever home

She's lovely.

The rescue Whisper was from takes dogs from pounds when their time is up. Whisper was in a pound - if it wasn't for them taking her in she might not be here. Which is too awful to think about. :(

Hopefully she has a home- someone is coming to see her shortly so this looks very hopeful as they have been referred by another reputable resue. Also things are looking very optimistic for the boxer that is due to be pts on Tuesday, who has rescue space with another rescue who has been kind enough to offer help.

Thankyou.

We have also managed to secure rescue spaces for the cairn for tomorrow and the boxer for Tuesday thankfully.

Katie is doing a little better today. She is so loving and sweet.

I've managed to lose my voice in the process of the quite stressful last couple of days! Time to take a break and have a cup of tea :)
