Mama Doe
We just managed to get to the pound at 5:02pm - after it closed at 5pm just in time to save little Katie (as one of the guys has named her). She is such a sweet little rotti. We are not sure if she has any x in her. (Our vets said she doesn't after her vet trip 04/05-she is a pure bred just underweight) She was several days over and there was definitely no option to wait another day as she would have been put to sleep that evening- so we managed to make room for her here.
She is undernourished and you can feel her bones as well as having kennel cough and whimpering so we wonder if other than that she is just traumatized, she may have some kind of injury she is hiding.
We are taking her to the vets today for some meds for her cough and vaccinations next Wednesday after which she will be neutered and receive her second lot of vaccinations before being kenneled. Ideally we are looking for a foster home for her prior to re-homing as the kenneling fees are around £4368.00 per year per dog we help.
We are looking for foster carers who have experience with dogs and can provide a loving temporary home in the intrim between having dogs coming out of the pound and receiving there complete set of vaccinations as we are unable to board them until they are fully upto date with vaccines, which can take several weeks to sort out. If you feel you could help- we have many dogs in desperate need of foster of all types.
We are unable to foster to homes with children under sixteen currently due to the risk involved when dealing with dogs that have come out of the pounds. As the dogs can come out with kennel cough, potential aggression, and other problems- isolation is recommended from other animals. If you would like to help and are in the west yorkshire area- please email rehome@greenleafanimalrescue.org.uk
If you are able to donate anything towards Katie's up and coming veterinary treatment costs- including neutering and vaccinations- please visit our website www.greenleafanimalrescue.org.uk and click on the donate button. Thankyou very much.
Here are some photos of her from yesterday. She was sick in the car on the way back bless her after Luke (who isn't normally involved in rescue transporting) had kindly offered to transport her. He didn't seem to mind thankfully and was quite happy we managed to rescue her in time.
A small video- As the pound were putting to sleep at 5pm-At 4pm we were totally unprepared for her arrival as we had anticipated having a couple of days to get organised. As things happened- we managed to sort out some old blankets and a vet bed (half eaten!!) and a temporary indoor kennel for her next to her own private garden. She really has got a sparkle in her eyes and has a very young puppy energy about her.
She met with another vaccinated dog who she interacted with well and members of the public she was absolutely fine with. She has had some interest already in adoption.
We have no history of Katie sadly- but she knew immediately what a harness is and can sit and rolls over to have her belly rubbed and is happy to lay down and stay. She doesn't understand paw, but walks well on the lead. We haven't tried her off the lead yet- but she is by your side looking for cuddles and affection. She did dash towards one of the farm cats this morning but not aggressively- more just curiously and playfully and we have yet to introduce her to small animals (from a safe distance) to gauge her reaction.
A little video- she is whimpering at the end so had to turn the video off. She is all booked into the vets now for 10:10am so hopefully her kennel cough will clear up quickly with meds and she has no injuries.
