Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Teeth grinding

Georgi

Young Bun
Can anyone explain what this actually sounds like? My bunny went into gut stasis yesterday and is looking a lot better and slowly starting to eat again. A couple of times I've noticed her chewing but I'm not sure whether she's eating and I just can't see what she has in her mouth or if she's grinding her teeth in pain :?

It's like a clicking noise really. you'd know if it were grinding as it's an odd and quite loud sound. So if when you are close by you can't hear any noise from bun, then she is probably chewing.

You would know if a bunny was teeth grinding in pain, it is a horrible sound.

Sounds like your bunny might be chewing / teeth chattering in a sort of getting comfortable way. My Herbie does it a lot.

Ah that's great, I was hoping it was just chewing/normal noises as she wasn't showing any other signs of pain. She just tucked in to a nice lunch of fresh hay (including posh, new hay  ), dandelions and readigrass so we're on the right track :D
