Stringy poo - ongoing!!!

Hi, I have searched and read several posts on this but just wondered what the majority of people do...

Pebbles (well I thinkit's him?!) keeps do long strings of poops, look like they'd be really painful!!! I've read that this is likely to be because of his own fluff!! Like hairballs? They both eat lots of grass and hay and are both still pooing so that means no blockages hopefully but it is ongoing and not very nice for him.. What should I do?

I've just tried the fresh pineapple thing, 2 days in row, I thought they'd go mad for it but they won't even touch it!?

If he has stringy poos then it is good in a way as it means that he is passing the fur / hair. He must be moulting at the moment. Could you groom / brush him to help him get rid of loose fur?

I saw a rabbit specialist and said the pineapple juice thing is an old wives tale. Better to make sure they eat lots of hay to push it along and also drink a lot and exercise to keep their gut in good order. Wetting your hand and stroking your rabbit will also get rid of lose fur for him or brush and comb him so he has less to do himself.

Thank guys.. glad the pieapple thing is just a rumour coz they really won't eat it!! Yes, Pebbles always seems to be moulting, even though he's not long haired?? Neither of my buns seem to drink much water though, they eat lots of fresh grass which is quite wet.... How can I get them to drink more??

Water

I don't think it's the actual pineapple you have to give them it's the pineapple juice , you have to add a bit to their water :)

Have you tried them with a bowl of water mine would never use bottles so I bought the ceramic dog water bowls and they drink better out of them :)

Neither of mine like a water bottle, they much prefer a bowl of warm water. Might be worth a try.

Yeah, I've given up on the bottles already. They have a big plastic tub of water, just never seem to catch them drinking it and it doesn't disappear very quickly???
How much pineapple juice did you add to their water??
Worried that Pebbles really is eating too much fluff~!! Whenever you stroke him it flies of everywhwere!

As Kermit said, the hair passing through is a good sign & lots of fibre plus a good water intake is the best thing. Grooming - either with a brush, damp hands or rubber gloves will also help.

If they're eating a lot of grass and/or veggies then they may well be getting plenty of moisture from them, hence not really drinking much from the bowl. Mine also seem to like their water warm so I add a splash of boiled water from the kettle.

There are mixed opinions on pineapple - I've read that it needs to be fresh pineapple but I don't give it as I feel that any possible benefits would be outweighed by the effects of the sugar on the gut.

I only add maybe a teaspoon or less to a biggish bowl of water but if they are having a heavy moult I use the papaya and pineapple tablets from oxbow but very rarely use those :D
