  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

need advice regarding sore hocks

Auzelia

Young Bun
my little rabbit has recently been going on carpet and I have discovered that he has one foot that has a sore hock, is this due to the carpet he has been running about on. He usually runs about on the soft living room but recently we have let him have free reign over the whole house so has been going in my childrens bedroom too.

This is only on the one foot tho? We have had him about 10 months now so I am a bit  and unsure what to do.

He is going into the garden next week once we get him his pets at home sycamore hutch. Will the grass help his sore hock heal?

Thanks

Carpeted surfaces can be a problem with regards to sore hocks. Especially in Rex Rabbits or Rabbits with mobility issues. So whilst the carpet may be contributing to the problem it would be good idea to look at what else might be causing the problem. These links may be useful to read and then I would get your Rabbit checked over by your Vet

Grass is certainly a better substrate for Rabbits with sore hock issues.

Good luck
