Miniature rabbits?

rabbitdan

Mama Doe
Today I was in pets at home and the lady was telling a customer that they specialize is miniature rabbits and you can mix and match them from the different cages.
Thankfully she did say they have to be neutered, but is there such a thing as a miniature rabbit?

For Gods sake.
What if someone gets a large and a small, non neutered, mix and matches and boom.Dead mummy bunny from trying to give birth to a giant...
Hate that shop.

Ignore them - they are just ignorant. they mean nethies etc.

No apparently it's a new breed. Smaller than nethies even. Not sure how true it is but some people have seen them and said they're as small as a person's fist.

Very worrying.

They are tiny. But then again they could be just babies!

they are not pygmy rabbits:wave:

its already been brought up in the p@h thread they are 'micro' rabbits theyre just tiny breeds of rabbit:evil:

Does anyone have any pictures of these. I had a look back and found another thread but the rabbits looked somewhat creepy. I can't imagine P@H selling many of them as they didn't look quite "right". :(

past thread http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?267339-Micro-rabbits the micro nethie pictured on that thread was not breed that small deliberately, her story is here http://www.barbibrownsbunnies.com/micro.htm

Mirco mini's have been around for at least 3 years as I came across them when I was looking to buy Toby in early 2009. Basically it's where breeders have realise people want small rabbits. Lots of people are rehoming rabbits because they grew a lot bigger than they where expecting and they don't know what to do when they've got a rabbit that fills the indoor cage they bought. To fill this need they have sourced and breed undersized rabbits, particularly cross breeding with polish rabbits. I have seen micro mini rexes, lops, and lionheads. The micro nethie never really caught on because its so ugly. I think to be classes as micro they have to be less than 2.5kg
I would imagine that if they continue to be breed consistently someone will apply to the BRC to have them registered as an official breed but they are not currently.

I can't find the link to the British breeder but this is an example of an American one who are looking to breed micro mini's and also lionhead rexes. They explain the genetic process however I wouldn't read it too closely if you're easily upset. I link to it only because it provides photo's and explanation on their (the rabbits) creation, not to endorse it in anyway.

Sounds like they are trying to make a new type of tomato not a flippin rabbit:(

Forget dogs being small enough to go in your handbag it's now all about the bunnies that fit in your purse!!! What is the world coming to :(

The ones in pets at home looked nothing like that. They had larger ears and a nicer face. Actually they were just like a normal rabbit but smaller. 1 was a lovely sandy colour - just like a rabbit i had a few years back.
