  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

A little worried about Jasper's breathing...

Hi everyone, hoping you can perhaps help me with Jasper. I've noticed today that as he's snuggled up quite happily in one of his favourite spots under the dining table. He appears quite tired and is occasionally making a low, snorty sound. He's normally a vocal bun but it's hard to tell whether he's just making a new noise or whether he's having trouble. He's done a fair few sneezes over the last couple of days too. Do I need to worry?

I would pop him along to the vets. He could just be having an off couple of days or it could be the start of a respiratory infection or the like, and with these the sooner you catch them the better. Vibes for Jasper, hope he feels better soon!

I would definitely get your Vet to examine him, preferably today. It is possible that he has a respiratory tract infection.

He's only done it once or twice and he had a little binky around. I've just gone and spent some time in the living room with him and it's a little chilly, could this be a factor? I'll take him to the vets if he needs it, I just didn't want to stress him out for nothing.

He needs to be examined by a Vet :)

Thanks for your help guys, i'll have the other half take a quick look (he's a people doctor but he can give him a once over!) and i'll pop him to the vets tomorrow :)

Good luck :) My Boris has respiratory problems and this sounds very similar to what he's been doing (sneezing, noisy breathing etc.). Sending vibes for your little guy :)
