  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Floppy's pain relief

weedug

Mama Doe
Floppy has been slow to get over his bloat, because it turns out the tiny dose of vetergesic he was on was causing him to be too sleepy. Since I have stopped this he has been eating much better and is much happier.

He was on a high dose of metacam before, but he has been passing a lot of mucus, so I assume there is a high chance the metacam had caused ulceration.

Just wondered what other would do with a bun in his situation?

ETA Obviously I will be speaking to my vet, and probably ask him to get advice from D1ck Vet School. I just wanted some thoughts from others.

Tramadol ?

Tramadol ?

Forgot about Tramadol. I was offered it for Floppy when his tummy went bad, but the vet didn't have a clue what dose to do. Of course the vet school would tell them that.

Although I am thinking that Floppy's recent struggling and the pain getting worse, was pain from his tummy building up rather than from his leg. He isn't on any pain relief just now, and he is happier today than he has been for some time.
