  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can Rabbits Get Scabies From the Family Dog?

scatter

Alpha Buck
My dog, Danny, went to the vet today and it turns out he's got Scabies (we live in a very rural area). Anyway, he's been given the stuff to sort it out. I have two house rabbits - Charlie and Poppy - and I was just wondering if rabbits can get it from dogs?:? Vet did mention washing the childrens' hands, etc., but it was my husband who took him, otherwise I would have asked about the buns! I did ring, but (rabbity) vet not in until tomorrow now.

Im unsure if the scabies your dog has is the extremely infectious scabies that humans can get all over.
Treatment for the family over several days,,washing clothes and bedding in hot wash, and keeping personal things personal.
If this is the case, Im afraid washing hands isnt gonna cut the mustard.

I maybe wrong......

And I am wrong!! PHEW!! I googled it and these mites cant survive on humans.
Sorry.

Thanks:shock: I don't think it's that sort - the vet thought it was picked up from foxes, so I'm hoping it's that sort!!
