Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Recurring ear mites

Any suggestions??

I'm pretty (definitely) sure Bella has mites again. She first had them before christmas. 3 injections 10 days apart, no live mites on last microscope check. Mites back again end of Jan/beginning of Feb, repeated the same again, this time with some ear drops along side injections, every thing clear again.

They're back again for a third time now. We'll be off to the vets again tomorrow but it's driving us mad!!

Any suggestions of what we can do other than ivermectin injections?

Just a lunchtime bump! Can't get in to the vets til tomorrow so any more suggestions are very welcome!

I know the feeling, Beano had recurring ear mites for quite a while when she was younger. She must have had them about 5 different times very badly. No injections worked (or seemed to week but then they'd come back a week or few later) apart from one which I will check the reciepts later and give the name. Have you cleaned her accomadation? My vet told me to do so very carefully so I threw away anything I could replace easily that couldn't be washed and replaced blankets, got rid of all hay and herbage and cleaned the shed. Hopefully she can get rid of them soon!

She's a completely free range house rabbit, I've disinfected her litter tray, and we mop the floors downstairs every week anyway. All rugs, fabrics have been washed etc.

The only thing I can think of now is to start getting her hay from somewhere else. We get bales from the local feed store, but we're on a different bale now, and still back.

Due to her size she's previously been having the cattle grade ivermectin injections  Hopefully this will be the last time now. I feel so awful for her coz it seems to get so itchy really quickly. Poor little thing.
