  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is it right ?

Yes completely normal to moult at any time of year but especially now it is Spring as this will be the winter coat being lost.

Absolutaly normal for them to moult now, one of my boarders has just started in the past 2 days and has gone from having an impecable coat and now looks really scraggy

Most definitely. Mine have been moulting for a few weeks now. Want some satisfaction? See loose fur and gently pull it out. I "pluck" ours daily and the amount of fur that comes out is incredible! Occasionally you'll get proper clumps - just pull them out as they're already detached and then go "wow" over how much fur's there. Sorry, hair.

(they don't feel me plucking them as the hair's already on its way out. The only time they jump is if it's still attached ...:lol:)

If it's visibly in clumps which are standing kinda proud from the rest then no, she's just moulting in clumps - see my reply above. (ours' clumps vary from just a straw thickness full, to one of our fingers wide full, if that makes any sense and when teased out by us, there's no gap - makes us wonder where it came from!)

If it's leaving bald spots, then probably yes.

If it's the latter I'd get her to a vet as there's more than likely a problem with her.
