  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

what age should i spay my rabbits?

Oscarandlola

Young Bun
I am sure their is probably a thread lying a room somehwere with this info in it, but just dont have time to search through them all :). They are currently about 9 weeks old .

Thanks guys, your being a great help to a new rabbit owner :)

My vets only spay rabbits from 16 weeks onwards, but as long as they are heavy enough (not sure on what that weight is though, my girl was 2.4kg and they sad that was "plenty") but I know of other vets who say 20 weeks onwards. As to when after this it's up to you, but I personally went for as early as I could with my girl to avoid hormonal changes which could have risked my twos bond breaking. Also I was worried that the nest building that inevitably comes with the hormonal changes would stress her out so went for asap. I'd check with your vet when they spay from and go with when you and your vet feel is best. Good luck with the buns :)

my savvy vet advises 3 months + if a boy's testicles have descended.

females he advises 6 months.

hope this helps

I think that it's anytime between 6 months and 2 years of age is the optimum time for female spaying. It also of course depends on their general health and weight. Have a chat to your vet next time you call in, or give them a ring and ask to speak to a nurse; mine are lovely and don't mind giving a bit of advice over the phone.

i think around 6 months old. however if they do not have another bunny who they wil see and/or live with then its doesnt matter AS much. however if you get them spayed it calms them down alot....so yeah.

When they are full grown is the ideal time for the surgery because the bigger they are the easier it is. 6-12 months is usual for a girl.

We normally do it from 4 months as long as they are over 1kg, its normally around 6 months though
