Pet Shop displaying "expecting" bun?

youthnovels

Wise Old Thumper
Just been to a local pet store whom in the past have had a bun in a brightly lit enclosure with kits who were only days old, radio blaring and in an open top glass sort of pen.

Today they have a rabbit with a sign attached saying "EXPECTING - Not for sale". Radio, lights etc still blaring. I presume that the bun is going to be kept there to give birth and then rear her kits in a similar way that the other one did. There wasn't vast quantities of hay and mum looked very small, younger than my Evie who is only 7months old herself.

They also have guinea pigs and buns for sale together.

Despite the obvious issues they did look quite "well" cared for as well, clean enclosures and water, food and what not. Is this something that is illegal? Or goes against some sort of code of conduct or is it perfectly fine for pet shops to display animals whom are pregnant/nursing young animals?
