  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Anivac VHD causing small poos?

Jenova

Wise Old Thumper
Has anyone heard of this happening?
Since I got back from the vets on Tuesday someone was doing tiny, and I mean tiny, poos. I assumed it must be Grim as he's on a truck load of medication right now and in pain. Day by day the poos have got bigger. I have a way of testing which poos belong to which bunny. I wait until one goes to the toilet, I watch until they move and then I stick my hand on the poos to see if their warm. Gross I know but it works.

Anyway today I managed to discover that the poos were Smoo's. :? She had her VHD on Tuesday and this happened immediately afterwards.

The only other thing is her abscess has come back again but she is still eating hay and pellets and doesn't seem to be in any pain. Like I said they have steadily improved since Tuesday although they're not perfect yet. I will be ringing my vet tomorrow anyway to update her on Grim's progress so I will mention this to her then, just wondered if anyone had experienced it.

Strangely enough Grim, who doesn't eat hay and is on so many different medications, has perfect golden poo. :?

It may be due to the stress of being transported to the Vet and to her feeling a tad 'off' after the vaccination. Rather like we may feel a bit rubbish after a Flu vaccine. The fact that her gut motility is now improving makes me think that there is nothing much to be concerned about. It was probably just a 'normal' Rabbit gut motility response to stress (both environmental stress-ie travelling and physiological stress-ie the bodies response to a challenge to the immune system-ie the vaccine)

Not something I've noticed with mine but like Jane says, could simply be the stress of it all.

My two both have Anivac and this has never been a problem! I'm on constant poo watch at the mo, so I definitely would have noticed anything strange when they had their VHD jabs a few weeks ago!
