Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit grunting/running/shaking head, strange!

ElsasMummy

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about what this could be... Elsa is acting strangely, she's very energetic and as soon as I go up to he she's grunting an running about, she's also been grunting an shaking her head, looks a bit like a sneeze but I don't think it is. She's off to vets on tuesday for a dental so could it be related to that? Only other things I can think is ear mites as she's had them before or could it be due to weather- putting her in heat?! I may video it and go to vets tomorrow, if not I'll speak to vet about it on tuesday, just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

That's what I'm hoping.. But it looks like something is annoying her! I'm not too concerned, will take a video for the vet :)

Buckley honks and flicks his head when he's happy and showing off. Hopefully your bun is just showing you that she's happy :D

One of mine grunts a lot!
She makes so much noise when you go near her...she has always been like that though.
My other one doesn't make any noise. He is a house bunny now and has always been the friendlier of the 2, he was diagnosed with EC and was on deaths door 6 weeks ago. Now he's a very happy house bunny who loves flopping on his side to sleep and scaring me to death! Lol.

It's not an angry grunt- she used to do that years and years ago when I had to corner her to pick her up but she's now the most placid bun! Im not too concerned, I'm reallllly hoping I might see a binky as she seems to be enjoying the sun and I haven't seen her do one for years!

Shes been sat waiting for me to feed her this morning! As soon as I go out she's hopping all round my feet, grunting and flicking her head, she's a happy bun! Haven't seen her like this in years (she's 9 now.) I'm starting to question if she even needs a dental as she's so perky! Booked her in as routine- we're trying to do them before she shows symptoms as it seems to be quite bad by the time she does. Hmmm!
