  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How long does Xenex take to work?

You should sgtart to see a reaction of the fleas on the bunny and the bunny jumping relatively quickly.

Also please keep a very close eye on your bunny, there are a huge amounts of side effects, from localised reaction to death.

Generally the most safest flea treatment in bunnies is Advantage.

Hopefully your bunny will have no reaction though :)

Thank you :)

I applied the Xenex yesterday at 3pm & it seemed to be working. However, I have found more fleas present in their fur today that are very much alive! I have tried to remove some of them with a flea comb but it is very slow going!

More Xenex & flea treatment questions!

Does Xenex work by entering the bloodstream?

If so, how long should it take for the fleas to die?

How does it prevent further flea/mite issues for 2 weeks?

If the Xenex hasn't worked fully, how soon can I apply more flea treament; after 1 or 2 weeks?

I'd prefer to use Advantage if it's safer for buns - where can I get it? Is it specifically made for rabbits?

Any advice would be great. I think my vet is sick of me calling them every 5 minutes!!
