P@H vets?

LittleEskimo

Mama Doe
Went to the vets with Pebbles yesterday for his check up and he is all good and healthy :thumb: He has got his plums and is ready to be neutered. Anyway when I adopted him from P@H they gave me a £20 money off voucher for his neuter which I was pretty chuffed about. But I was wondering how good the vets would be there :? Saving money is all well and good but I want to make sure Pebbles gets the best care he can, obviously. Has anyone else used their vets? Is it any good or hit and miss or anything? Thanks :)

It varies from store to store. Some have excellent rabbit savvy vets others have vets that I wouldn't send a goldfish too!

I've found Companion Care at Pets at Home really good and they seem to know their stuff. When my vet was unsure what was wrong he said he'd call a specialist. so he rang me up and said it was up to me if I wanted to go and see her and have all the tests. I did and it cost £250 for xray, bloods, overnight stay etc but my vet had only charged me £16.50 when I went to see him as I'd been there 6 weeks before. I could have left it and just paid that but I wanted piece of mind.

She gets her nails clipped, vaccines and general check ups there. When she has her vaccines they check her teeth, weight, eyes, so you know if she's in good health every 6 months.

Companion Care have been great for me.

I looked on their website and could clearly see a couple where rabbit savvy and some weren't....so I when I go I have like 2/3 that I can use as they know their stuff.

I'd recommend doing that

As already said, it will vary by branch and some will be better than others. I've been using our local one for a while and am quite impressed so far; both vets have a keen interest, one has bunnies herself and both are also willing to accept that they might not know everything & so are happy to seek an expert opinion if necessary.

If you have a look in the Old Useful Topics sticky at the top of the Health section, there should be a link to a thread which has a list of questions to ask to help determine how rabbit savvy a vet is. :D

Oh thankyou :) I was wondering what sort of questions I would need to ask.

I agree with the others. Although the vets are in PAH stores, they are NOT PAH vets, they are independent vets who own and operate each practice as an independent business. They have just bought into a 'franchise' for want of a better term, so there are certain policies they have to comply with (such as opening times and branding) and they get their HR, accountancy etc support through a company which is part of the PAH group, but the actual clinical decisions made by each practice are based on the individual vets (as do the profits).

Our local Companion Care is, in my opinion, the best vets in my area, but as Liz said, there are other branches I have heard about where I wouldn't take a goldfish, so it really is down to the individual vet/s at each practice.

Yeah I remember looking at the Companion Care website and I noticed they are seperate from the P@H brand. Will take Pebbles for a pre-op there and see how they do

My vet in fact makes a point that they are not connected! I said I would get some hay and which one did he recommend and he said he's not part of P@H and would recommend getting Oxbrow online rather than shop there :)

I work at a companion care vets :)

We are like any other vets, some will be good and some bad, I like to think we are one of the good ones! Like others said we are not part of pah and my surgery quite openly tell ppl not to bother with pah products and actively encourage rescue rather than buying from pah!

Can't speak for other surgeries though :)
