  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Views on The New Anivac VHD Vaccine, do you Vaccinate your rabbits?

I dont believe there have been any recorded reactions related to this Drug.

But my young Belgian hare Buck, Died a day after being given this Vaccine. I still believe the Vaccine may have killed him.
I also had a Belgian hare buck die, after having Troubles with his back, the back problems started day after being given the 'Cylap injection', he lost the use of his back legs. we thought it would be best to put him to sleep.

but yeah any thoughts Share here!

I'm very sorry to hear of your losses. Were they related? The boys I mean. Just wonder if something genetically might play a part.

I have some very vulnerable and sick bunnies and they have all had the Anivac. 15 had no problems, but 1 was very tired for about 72 hours. That was expected because any vaccine wipes her out due to her issues. She bounced back nicely though.

All 4 of mine have had the Anivac vaccinations for at least the past 2 years, and none have had reactions at all to it.
Sorry to hear about your bunnies.

Did you have an autopsy done? I would definitely want one done if I thought the death was related to something else, otherwise it's just guess work :?

Both my current buns have had the anivac vaccination...we changed vets becuase our old vet was adament that they were going to give cylap and we wanted to avoid it so we switched to a much more bunny savvy vets who wont use cylap at all...

So sorry to hear of your loss :(

My two Bucks Were unrelated, i have a tan hare do who wasn't effected at all by the anivac. Too scared to get my current buck vaccinated.

Good Choice changing vets :thumb: they should have the bunnies best interests at heart, Cylap caused lots of bunny Problems.

All my four have had Anivac, I think twice now. No problems at all, none reported by my vet either.
