Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vaccinations for boarding

I'm going on holiday in July for 3 weeks and my two bunnies will be going to a boarding house.
It's a local place about 20 miles from where we live.
They are indoor rabbits and will be kept indoors at the place.

I haven't had them vaccinated against Myxomatosis this year yet, and the owner said that they don't need to be when they stay there as they're indoors?
Is that right, or should they be, and as it's a new area? :?

I would advise that they should be vaccinated against myxo (and VHD) anyway even if they weren't going to boarding. Flies and mosquitos get into your house I'm sure (you have probably seen them buzzing around inside at some point) so they can easily get in to bite a bunny, and VHD is carried on clothes and shoes.

Hopefully your boarder has a better bunny knowledge in other areas!

my house rabbits are vacinated cos you don't know who they mix with while they are there i lost 2 cats 4 years ago who were elderly and caught a bug in kennels
