  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Diggory's drooling :(

I just went to feed my mini lops and noticed Diggory looks quite wet under his chin. :( He is still happy and bounding around and eating hay and pellets and veg perfectly normally. He has his VHD vaccination on Tuesday so I will obviously get him checked out then, but are there any other reasons for drooling or is it going to purely be a dental issue? I hope he's not in pain. :(

Dental options would be top of the list. If you can get him seen and get pain relief today that would be preferable for him.

Thank you. :( I am on the hunt for a rabbit savvy vet.

If you have a large P@H store near you they may have a branch of Companion Care Vets in store and open today.

Cant vouch for the specific Vet you may see, but being in a P@H store would increase the chances of them knowing a Bun's butt from his/her elbow......... hopefully.

Thank you for this!! :) I never thought of this at all. I just called them, they asked if he was still eating and drinking to which I said he was. They are full up today but said I can bring him in tomorrow morning, and if he stops eating in the mean time to call them back and he'll be seen as an emergency.

I keep checking on him, I just went up again and his chin's completely dry. I will obviously still get him checked, but is it possible it was water?? He also had his teeth checked a week and a half ago when he had his myxi jab which makes me wonder.

It is possible it was water. In my experience it's quite easy to tell the difference. For drool it is generally thick and caked and goes down to the skin. Water is often just on the surface and tends to wipe off on you easier than drool does.

He is not keen on being held so I wasn't able to check if I was able to wipe it off. I think I just got panicked. I'm gonna keep a close eye on him this evening. Thank you for your help.
