  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Baby Bunnies

I have baby bunnies that are about 2 weeks old. My female had 8 of them and I've been watching them closely. One of them is what I would assume is the runt. They are about a third of the size of the others but it doesn't seem like they aren't being fed. I believe all the others (or nearly all of them) have their eyes open but the tiny one does not. I don't really see a layer of crust on it but maybe there is. My question is, do the runts take a little longer for their eyes to open? Or do I need to clean the eyes because it isn't normal?

There's a sticky at the top of this forum that might help you.

If a rabbit has not opened its eyes past fourteen days then sometimes a warm compress might help. Just holding something warm and wet on the eye a couple of times a day. If that doesn't work, you'll need to take it to the vet (with mum and siblings too).
