  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Leo bunny URI and has lost a tooth

Leo saw the vet tonight and it was not great news - as expected it's a URI and a bad one, his teeth were not overgrown just one back one needed filing but when the vet was examining them a front upper molar fell out whole! Suprised both of us. I hope he will be ok without that tooth - vet also showed me the abcsess under Leo's chin - 6 months ago there were a few tiny lumps now they are bigger. Vet is leaving those alone at the moment.

Leo has had an injection of antibiotic - says Duphacycline on my receipt - I know nothing about types of antibiotic.

I've got to take him back Fri for another antibiotic jab and he wants to see how he's eating then he's agreed I can do the next few antibiotic jabs at home as less stress for Leo. Not my favourite job but I've done it once so can do it again.

The vet feels Leo is a fighter but says he's high risk with his age - I have said I'll take it one day at time.

Leo also had his nails clipped whilst we were there as the nurse was free and they are offering free claw clipping in March.

He was pleased to get home and has eaten a small bit of scone - a sweet treat he loves as an occasional treat, good sign he is eating and drinking ok.

Just hope he pulls through this.
