Barbering?

Hello,

At feeding time, Billy runs around like mad pushing Bob away from the bowl, and after a minute or so he lets Bob eat. They are both neutered and have been living together for about a year. I'm worried Bob is becoming more reluctant to eat as a result. What can I do to stop Billy being possessive?

My main question, however, is about Bob's fur. On the bridge of his nose, a band of fur looks worn (not bald). It looks as though he's been gnawing on something, but I can see nothing in their run to show this. Could Billy be barbering at Bob's nose? Could this be a dominance thing?

Thank you,
Rosie

Hi and welcome to the forum. To stop any food bowl problems I scatter the rabbits'good around their enclosure on the floor, in the hay and in any hideouts they have. It takes them longer to ready and no one can protect the food.

Does he gnaw the bars on his run or home at all? This can cause a line of fur to wear off on the tips of their noses.

I use two small bowls and place them about 6 inches apart, then they both get a chance to eat.

Thank you for your speedy replies. They already have separate bowls, but I will try the scattering technique!

Bob doesn't chew the bars as the holes are too narrow for him to get his mouth/nose around.

I may have to bite the bullet and travel 50 minutes to our bunny vet, as Bob certainly isn't himself - sitting next to the door with this odd line on his nose! He eats, but not like he used to. The boys do not fight at all, so I am reluctant to separate them.

My Grayson had this! it was from where Matilda was cleaning his nose to much, the fur was coming off, leaving him with this wired furloss

I think you are right. If his behaviour has changed he definitely needs a vet. Let us know how he gets on.
