  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi, i have a year old dwarf lop ear rabbit she has stopped eating since this morning, she was eating fine last night and her poo is extremely runny. she won't eat the poo she should be eating i have tried making sure she is getting enough fiber in her diet as this is what the vet advised so she has plenty of fresh hay several times daily and a fiber supplement in her water, can anybody please advise on anything else i could try?! Thanks

Take her to the vet as soon as possible.. looks like her gut isn't right.bunnies need to eat properly at all times.

If she is not eating she will be in stasis (her gut has stopped moving), and this can kill a rabbit very quickly. Even not refusing food for a few hours is an emergency. It is also very painful for them, making them want to eat even less. She needs to go to the vets for a gut stimulant, painkiller by injection and to see if she has a blockage. If not she can be forcefed recovery liquid food and fibreplex, but if she has a blockage forcefeeding can make it worse.

The runny poo is also a sign that she is very very ill.

She needs to see a vet, and fast. You can ring your usual vet and you should get through to, or find message telling you how to get through to the emergency vet. She needs to see a vet NOW for a good chance at beating this, morning might be too late.

Good luck at the vets, let us know what happens xx
