Rabbit Savvy Vet Needed - Leighton Buzzard

Jan

Warren Scout
Does anyone know of a rabbit savvy vet in the Leighton Buzzard(Bedfordshire) area? I know there is supposed to be a good one in Northampton but that is a fair distance away from us.

Hi there

If you're able to travel to Watford, in Hertfordshire, there is Guy Carter, at Medivet (St Albans Road). He is fantastic with rabbits and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my buns!!

Have you tried contacting Hugo's There (Rainbow Rabbits)? I believe they're based near you & as they have a large number of special needs buns, I would expect their vet is quite good!

I think Liz at Rainbow Rabbits uses Ark House in Leighton Buzzard, as does my Bunny Boarding lady. They say they are very good.

Here's a link http://www.arkhousevets.co.uk/

Yes we do, Juliet is excellent but i know jan has used them in the past and doesn't now. I don't know the reason why :? there are no other vets in town that i would let touch my bunnies.

There is an excellent vet in Bletchley that specialises in rabbits as part of the walnut tree vet group

Thanks for that. I stopped using Ark House as they are so expensive. Have tried another one just outside Leighton Buzzard and while they are ok for the dogs they didn`t impress me with my buns. Think I will have to have a think about what I am to do

They are expensive for some things but cheap for others. Their consults are dear but vaccinations and neuters are cheap. Dentals are around normal - £100 - as are most other things. the vet i recommended in Bletchley charge around £100 for a bunny spay where as ark house are £68. But their consults are only £20 compared to £31 at ark house. If you get juliet for a consult it is well worth the money :)

I would say overall that that it works out Ok for prices.

I wouldn't take my goldfish ( if I had one) to Hardings. If you have tried heath and reach then one of our old vets Christine moved there last year. Not sure if she is still there. Her people skills are pretty rubbish but she was good with the bunnies a lot of the time. She also did acupuncture and herbal remedies

I use Boness in Flitwick. They opened a clinic here last year, and the hospital is over in Barton le Clay. Really impressed with them so far.

Thanks Liz, I think it was Christine I saw at Heath and Reach, I know what you mean about her people skills:|. The owner of the practice was quite rough with Bill when I first took him about his breathing issue and basiclly made me feel like there was nothing they could do and that he wouldn`t live long:(. That was nearly a year ago and he enjoys life to the full and is out in the run running around like a looney as I speak. It is such a big thing trying to find a vet you trust. It seems just as you find a good one they move on to another practice. My buns are special to me and I want the best care for them looks like they may be going back to Ark. Thanks again :thumb:

I know what you mean, we have had some excellent vets at Ark House that have then moved on :( But i am so pleased Juliet has returned as she is fantastic. Lara is also brilliant now. She joined many years ago straight from college but has now become an excellent experienced vet and is great with the bunnies. Probably because she has seen so many of ours  She would always be my second choice:wave:
