Done with my old vets.

They've annoyed me for the last time. I don't know if you remember over Christmas I had the whole thing where the didn't want to give Grim the repeat prescription of the penecillin? Well since then I've been getting the baytril with no problem, until yesterday. I'd phoned up for the repeat on Thursday. It's an answer machine so just left details. I went in yesterday to pick it up and it hadn't been done. There was a note saying they wanted to see Grim but no one had rung me. :? Both rabbit savvy vets have left and they put all his medicines on repeat for me. He would need a check up every six months but it's not even been that yet. The vet there just doesn't like the medicines that he's on and is constantly questioning it, even though two rabbit savvy vets who I trust completely are very happy with how he's doing and what he's on. I was so angry but in the end they put the baytril through for me with instructions that he needs to be seen next time. I assume I'll pay for a check up and all he'll do is decide Grim doesn't need to be on these meds, even though he knows less about rabbits than the rabbit and exotic specialists who have seen him. So I'm not going back there. I was happy enough to go the new practices even though it's really far away but I rang them to explain the situation and they can post repeat prescriptions! How awesome is that? :D

I'd rather pay someone who knows what they're doing. The old vets just randomly decided they didn't trust the diagnosis of the vets who left and I can't be doing with petty feuds when the welfare of my pet is involved. It's a longer journey for them to get to the exotic vets but much better care. I can't begin to say how important I feel rabbit specialist vets are. If you can trust them 100% it makes everything so much easier. Just the fact that they know what they're doing!

I am glad you have found another vet that you are happier with.

With our vets they always need a check up after 3 months before any more repeats can be done, sometimes it has to be reassessed every month if it is something like antibiotics

Sadly, I have to leave my vet due to relocating.
If I had my way, Id drive the 240 miles I need to see him.I mean, for the bunnies to see him.....

Sorry they have been awkward :( If you do permanently go elsewhere then it might be worthwhile writing to these vets and explaining why you're going and just letting them know how flaming useless they have been.

It is a wonder you have not started a pets to vets service just so you can visit him more often imagine being paid to take pets to your lovely vets

Hmmm...worth a thought.:?

It's more the fact that they don't tell me. They wait for me to go in to pick up the repeat and then tell me I can't have it. By that time I can't wait for an appointment as I need the medicine.

But I think the vets are having a bit of a feud. They're annoyed that so many patients have followed the two vets that left to their new practices, but there's no need to take it out on the clients. Grim will be on these medicines for life, in fact they're all that's keeping him alive (well keeping his quality of life anyway). I know this and it should be on my notes because we discussed it enough. The vet said he didn't know why Grim was on the penicillin. Surely he can tell than from reading the notes? I know he wants to take him off it because rabbits should only have baytril. :? Actually Grim was the first ever rabbit in that vets to go on penicillin back in 2009 when they ordered it in for him. It was one of my lovely vets that did it. This other vet has never even met Grim. I don't know, it just doesn't sit right with me.

He's had a little relapse over the last few weeks but other than that from looking at him you would no know how ill he is. The medication he's on at the moment is perfect for him. Why would they want to change it? And why won't the vet speak to me directly, but keeps on relaying messages through the receptionists?

At All Creatures I rang up, spoke to my vet, had a nice conversation about how both rabbits were doing and the options for them both. So I came away happy.

Not a rant at you by the way! Don't know if it came across that way.
