Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worried about Lola..

Aly&Poppy<3

Wise Old Thumper
Our vets will put her in a collar after her spay.. so I'm taking the one Poppy was in for the journey home.. I'm going to ask if they will use glue but I don't know. I don't mind the stitching, it's just the collar. Poppy had a modified babygro because she was licking at her wound and it opened slightly but I don't know how Lola will be. I hope she will leave it alone. I refuse to put her in a collar, but I know she would destroy a babygro.

Has anyone had rabbits who have been spayed with stitching and they've just left it alone?

i got bloss and flora done one the same day and they were fine neither chewed stitches and both were eating the same day as op, hope lola leaves them alone, wouldnt it be easier if you could just explain to them why not to chew them  :)

Can the vet give you a bandage?
(It's like a thin, very stretchy tubigrip that you put over her torso... the bunny ends up looking a bit poodle-like :( )
I found that Ada chewed the bandage instead of the stitches, so it was an effective distraction, even if it rarely stayed covering the scar for long, and it didn't seem to do her digestion any harm.

Oooo, I'll ask, that sounds like a god send  Poppy was a nightmare with her stitches and babygro, I hope Lola is different but she is a madam

None of ours have ever chewed their wounds - I though the stitches themselves were usually internalised?

Yeah, they stitch the inside but they stitch outside too, I asked if they used glue but the receptionist said they use stitches (she seemed to be in a rush though). I'm going to get my bf to ring them tomorrow and ask if they do have glue can they use it, and about the bandage. Saves the hassle we had with Poppy lol.

Poppy didn't chew, just licked and it opened slightly, it was fine once she had the babygro and left it alone lol :) she feels the need to be difficult
