  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

:cry:I posted earlier (9th Feb to be precise) about my bun being rushed into the vets with a blockage. She seemed to get better & was discharged Sat with metaclopramide, panacur & liquid paraffin. Well to cut a long story short she developed diahorrea which we put down to the liquid paraffin & it was stopped. The vet let me take her home & I syringed fibreplex, metaclopramide, panacur & critical care but had to take her back to the vets on Sun evening as I was so tired & couldnt continue through the night. Well its Monday evening & Pip still isnt eating & if aything her diahorrea is worse. Shes still bright & interested in whats going o around her. The vet has taken a fecal sample & I should get results tomorrow. Pip was being injected every night with depocillin which has now stopped (she had bordetella which resulted in an abcess which broke through her jawbone) My rabbit savvy vet doesnt seem to know what else to do. Im so worried about Pip.
Anyone gone through anything similiar?

I am afraid you need to get Pip back to a Vet tonight.

Penicillin induced enteritis is a life threatening condition and rapid treatment is always needed, especially fluid therapy (IV/Sub cutaneous) Toxin binders (Questran) and possibly Metronidazole are also likely to be necessary. I would call the Emergency Vet now

Shes still at the vets I took her back Sunday evening but still has diahorrea. Thankfully shes not dehydrated but wont eat by herself unless its parsley but the vet is worried that greens may be making her worse. I did managed to get her to eat a couple of blades of readigrass but think it was because she was fed up with me tickling her mouth with tem
