Timmy's eye ulcers are worse :( U/D Worse (post 7)

Timmy's ulcers were doing really well with him on Septrin, getting the smallest they had ever been.

The dye in his eyes today showed the ulcer has got much worse in one eye, maybe the worst it has been :(.

He's got chloramphenical eye drops, as well as the viscotears, Fucithalmic, Septrin and metacam.

He's to take the chloramphenical 3 times a day. Anyone know if it matters if it is given shortly after the other drops?

Dont give them too soon otherwise it will wash out the other drops. Has he been checked for ingrowing eyelashes? I suffer from the same problems as Timmy so know how painful it its

Sorry to hear you have similar problems.

He was checked for ingrown eyelashes, and any abnormalities in the shape of his eye lids or any foreign bodies. His tear ducts were checked too. Everything seemed fine. The vet thinks he has dry-eye, which makes the timing of the drops important so his eyes don't get too dry.

I'll try and leave some time between the drops. The vet wanted the new drops to be given with an equal time between them, which means he should get them first thing in the morning and last thing at night. He always seems sorest then though, so I prefer the viscotears then.

I don't have any advice, sorry, but just wanted to send Timmy some vibes. I hope his eyes get better with all the meds xxx

Timmy got even worse on the chloramphenical eye drops, so I stopped them in the hope that he would get a bit better. He isn't so bad during the day, it is struggling when I get up for him in the morning, to the point that he wasn't eating properly this morning. He seems slightly better now after his pain relief.

Anyone any ideas what could have made him get so bad again so quickly? Things looked like they were picking up too :(.

He is still getting the viscotears and fucithalmic, septrin and metacam. He is getting the viscotears about every 2-3 hours during the day just now, and I have upped the metacam to 0.7ml twice daily. He weighs 3.5kg.

I have some lacrilube I was going to change him to tonight to see if that helps.

We have been fighting this for almost a year now, and he has had all sorts thrown at it. Two vets have seen to him, D1ck vet and an eye specialist consulted and still no result :(

He was only on the CMP for a few days. Vet only tried it cause I thought it might help. Timmy got much worse after being on it.

He has had blood serum drops, twice. Didn't make any difference.

Hiya. I'm going outside the box a bit here, as usual, but bear with me. Do you or anyone in your household suffer from coldsores? My friend had an ulcer on her eye, and it was herpes virus contracted from her boyfriend who suffered from coldsores. If it was that then it would only respond to antiviral medication and none of the antibioctics you've tried. I have only just reacalled this or I would have posted sooner. She didn't have sores anywhere else, just on her eye.

No coldsores here, but Timmy came to me as a foster almost a year ago, and he had the ulcers when he arrived. I will mention it to my vet when we go. Timmy had been doing not too bad, and then got a bit of an upper rti, which he was given Septrin for. The rti cleared up, and he seemed much better with his eyes. My vet agreed on trying him on Septrin to see if it helped his eyes.

For some reason, Timmy's eyes got much better, about the best they have been in all the time I have had him, then just suddenly one eye has got about the worst it has ever been. He still has the Septrin, and the viscotears and fucithalmic so don't know why he got so bad. Then he was given the chloramphenical drops, and his eyes got even worse. I stopped the new drops, but his eyes are still really bad in the mornings especially. Timmy can hardly open them until he has had his drops and pain relief.

Thank you so much for trying to think of things to help him :D. I am getting desperate, so any thoughts at all are really appreciated.

With my friend they said it would continually flare up periodically. Ulcers can quite often be viral rather than bacterial so if they can try antivirals hopefully that might help. Fingers and paws crossed!
