Abcess on back leg

Some of you may remember ...http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?329455-Abcess-on-hock-(joint)

When I took Finley back to the vets last Wednesday his abcess burst at the sight where the needles had gone in to flush it about 10 days before.

Since then I have been wiping the scab with water and squeezing out the puss. Last night we couldn't get much puss from the abcess but it still looks quite big. We also noticed another ball next to the current one which we are assuming is another ball of puss. Finley is on a pain killer - Metacam.

I am worried that this abcess won't burst like the other one because there hasn't been any needles stuck in it causing a weak part in the form of a scab.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Tanya

I fear that the core of infection is actually within the hock joint. Has he had any diagnostics ?

Is he on any abx ?

The main infection is in the joint but the vet said the puss was starting to become localised. He is having Penicillin injected every third day and is on Metacam once daily. He is till able to hop around (not putting alot of weight on foot) and is eating, pooping and drinking.

I think I would get him back to the Vet as it sounds as though he needs to be examined again.

Has the Vet considered adding Metronidazole as a second antibiotic ?

The vet hasn't mentioned any other medication. I am taking Jessica to have her nose looked at tomorrow, so will take Finley to be checked over too.

Thank you.

We are back from the vets....they think the abcess that I have been squeezing puss from now is just scar tissue because nothing somes from it anymore. The other ball of puss had a needle popped into it and lots of puss was squeezed out. Finley was such a good boy and just sat for it to be done. He also had his penicillin injection.
