Pet Shop Hay Reccommendations

Can anyone reccommend which hay their bunnies like best which they get from the petshop? I normally order for my two very fussy bunnies theirs from hay experts, however, it costs about £30 a time and as their myxi vaccs appointment ended up costing an unexpected £122 this week I just cant justify an order for another couple of weeks (I also have VHD to do & goodness knows what that will end up costing me).

I have a p@h and Jolleys local, I currently have the hay with herbs in from Jolleys but Peter isnt too keen (Poppy will not eat any hay whatever). I live in a flat so unfortunately cant buy a bail.

I get the Timothy hay from pets @ home it's usually about 7 quid a bag but it's packed solid and also my local pet shop do bags of stalky meadow hay which is only 2:50 a bag and my bunnys love that 

Have you tried the Vitaverde hay from Jollyes? Mine all love the Vitaverde stuff, it has Wild Rose, Nettle or Dandellion in it.

I get the meadow hay from the range. I think it's ok quality the bunnies like it and it's good price for a hay bag. I also get the timothy hay from wilkinsons to give them some of that too

 I have found Hay for Pets to be better value for money than pet shop hays and their hay is really nice. It is £16 for 9.5kg including delivery.

My non-hay eating bunny (for the last 8.5 years) has just started to eat this hay so it must be good. They do meadow or timothy and rye which is coarser (but this is the one he eats!)

I always harp on about farm shop hay but is there anywhere near you that could possibly get a bale/half bale from (and could you store it)? It has gone up in price for £5-£8 a bale for me but it lasts ages, my lot love it and it's so much cheaper than other options.

I did the whole buying the packets of hay, ordering DFH etc and non of it has gone down as well as my farm shop bales!

Yes, I normally get from hay experts which I imagine is similar to hay for pets but cant afford it at the moment.

I would live to be able to get a bale or
half but I live in a flat and have nowhere to store it.

I just wish the petshops did stalkier bags rather than it all being broken pieces that are tightly packed.

I think that the one from the range (make is nature's own) hay is 4kg and it's about £4. I think it's better than that animal dreams hay you see in pet shops which is the only other type i seem to see anywhere in shops

I struggle to find a pet shop hay that is cheaper than H4P anyway :?

Try a local farm bale - google local horse feed places/stables and you should come up with something.

Where abouts are you located anyway?

ETA: sorry just seen your location, I only asked incase you were near me :D

The problem is the ones mine eat are about £13 a bag, I get two doff bags and with delivery it's £30, I dont normally mind but this month has been an expensive one so I must be sensible.

I have farm shops and stables near me....just nowhere to store it. And to be honest they eat such small amounts of hay it's probably not worth me getting a bale, a bag last me weeks and weeks-naughty bunnies!!

Watch out, my local The Range store has got a poor batch in at the moment. Horrible stringy, dry stuff. I think it was responsible for an episode of stasis so I've stopped buying that stuff for now. Jollyes sell the same stuff but rebranded as their own, but their batch seems to be a bit better at the moment. Jollyes is more expensive though, about £5.50 :? The old stuff from TheRange was really good, had some stalky bits in it that the buns loved. I'm gutted the new stuff is poor :(

I'm a bit confused as I get my hay from H4P and their prices include delivery and are £16 for 9.5kg, £12 for 4.5kg and £9 for 1.8kg

Perhaps just get one bag as it will still end up cheaper than pet-shop hays and will be so much better quality!

I think it's because I get specialist types of hay because they are so fussy, the bag I am currently finishing is Orchard Grass Hay, maybe that's generally more expensive, they are just sooooo fussy.

Whereabouts in North London are you? If you're going to Jolleys, is that the Crews Hill one? Went in there once and saw the TINIEST hamster cage I'd ever seen >_< walked straight back out again haha.

Anyway, I go to Partners Pets in St Albans for most of my hay. Usually get the big bag (it's about 3ft tall, no idea of volume haha, just I have to drag it round the shop) of Dean's Farm hay at the moment. It's about £7 a bag and as I'm using it for bedding and food at the moment, it lasts a week.

If you are around Enfield way, Partners Pets is about half an hour drive from you!

Ah sorry, I got confused! I see now you get your hay from THE, whereas I thought you said Hay For Pets, but it was actually someone else suggesting that! Doh!

So, in light of this, I can fully recommend H4P, they are cheaper than THE and their meadow hay is really nice if your buns prefer soft hay. Even tho your buns are fussy and you don't know that they will eat it, it will still be much better than pet shop hays and IMO any buns are more likely to eat H4P than packaged hays....:D

alfafa kings timothy hay but its £8.99 a small bag :? but my 2 are ADDICTED to it x

If you get the Dust Free Hay American Timothy it is basically the same as alfalfa kings timothy but you get loads and loads more for your money. I think 2 boxes are £22.99 including delivery but each box is so compressed it will literally fill up an entire garden bin (the big black ones). I got two boxes at the small animal show and there's so much in there :D

My Spenser is really fussy, and I spend a lot on posh hays to tempt him. To be quite honest I actually see him eating his Morrisons bedding hay as much as anything else. It is very cheap meadow hay, and the quality varies from bathc to batch, but he always has a good nom while he is in his litter basin!

Might be worth a look.

I feed Burgess forage and herbage hay, mine love it, never had a problem with it although might be a bit 'rich' for rabbits with sensitive stomachs
