  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just asking to be safe, please give advice.

New Kit
Hi guys. I adopted my rabbit (a female whom I named Bluebell) Nearly 6 months ago. I have never kept Rabbits before, but I have had rats, chinchillas and several foster kittens in the past. Most of the animals I've had have been on a foster basis. When Bluebell first came to live with me, she was straight out of the petshop environment. Not used to human contact etc. As she was my first permanent pet, I made a point to only keep her in her cage for about 6 hours a day. The rest of the time she spends sitting with me, doing flip-flops in my room and so on. I'm worried because she's started burrowing through the carpet (obviously that's an instinct that can't be suppressed) and when I'm in the room she will circle my feet and try to hump my leg (that's the only way I can describe it, sorry) She loves to be stroked when she's in the mood, but she doesn't have a cuddly personality. She likes to run around a lot too. I want to have her neutered, since I think it's kinder to remove those instincts (and the risk of uterine cancer). I would appreciate any and all advice, since Bluebell is my first bunny. Thanks :)

:wave:Hello and welcome to the forum.
Bluebell will be a lot more settled once you get her speyed.
Have you got a rabbit savvy vet in your area?

Hello

You sound like a very conscientious owner, lucky Bluebell!

Yes, she will hopefully be far more settled once she has been spayed. Do find a vet who comes recommended or is very experienced with rabbits. A spay op for a girl is a big one, so she will needs lots of tlc and experienced hands pre and post op.
If you post in the rabbit chat section for a vet near you (or here in Health) you will hopefully get some recommendations

Good luck x
