Please Note - Medical Advice
Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.
You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.
We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.
Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.
Can you post a picture of her poos to give an example of the abnormal ones ?
Is she on any medication ?
Maintaining her weight?
Drinking a lot ?
How old is she ?
When all tests were exhausted for one of my Buns (Harry) who presented in a similar way, but worse as he was not able to keep himself clean and he sometimes passed a jelly-like liquid, a diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease was made. He was started on Sulphasalazine and after just 2 weeks he was 100% back to normal. Treatment was stopped and he has never had a relapse (touches wood)
Every day unfortunately, I was wondering if it may be neurological, I just want them to be good enough to get her spayed if possible as she is a hormonal little madam!! At the moment the vet is reluctant to spay due to the gurgling noises. We know it is a risk of fits post anaesthetic but the vet thinks she should be ok as her epilepsy symptoms are so minor at the moment and getting less frequent, she has not had a full blown "fit" as such.
If you would like to try, I have a supply of Blackthorn or Sloe leaves & would send you some if you pm me an address or tell you what I know about them.
My bridge bun Thumper had serious gut problems all his life which mimicked the neurological problem dysautonomia. These leaves which are avidly eaten by wild buns got him through to the age of 6years 4 months, despite a continuous battle with stasis & dysbiosis.
My former vet worked in an exotics center, & used them effectively for hospitalised buns with stasis whatever the cause. I have her assurance that it will not make a situation worse whatever the diagnosis.
My new bun Benjie had mild dysbiosis on arrival. He found the box of dried leaves, & jumped in it eating quite a lot. His dysbiosis cleared within 2-3 days. He doesn't eat them now.
I would be very interested to see photos of her poops.
I was hoping you would see this. I was wondering whether it was similar to what Thumper had, or even the same condition but I just don't know enough to comment.
We had a young bunny who had similar symptoms but also passed mucus, we came to the conclusion he had an allergy to manufactured food as nothing else showed up in any tests and no medication helped. He went on to a hay/dried herb diet only. Sadly we never got to find out if it would cure him completely as he died under a routine GA. But it did give us a chance to have a PM done which showed nothing wrong at all which we felt supported the theory of an allergy :?
Hmmm, well she eats her caecals, her poops are odd sizes, some huge and some tiny, they don't seem crumbly despite being on hay, fibreplex and profibre only, sometimes they are really squishy. And her tummy rubbles quite loudly. She eats hay really well. So doesn't sound like dysbiosis does it?
