Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye Ulcer Advice please :) And syringe feeding

FudgeMallow

Mama Doe
Just given fudge the drop in her eye for her ulcer and it must have nipped her a bit cause she was grinding her teeth and is now sitting with her eye half closed.

Is it normal for her to react this way? I guess i would be the same but just worried about her!

Also how is the best way to give the eye drop stuff? I try to open her eye without hurting her and when the stuff drops on her eye its quite thick and creamy and when she closed her eye a little came out so how do i get it to stay in? If that makes any sense

Also what is the best way to syringe feed? She doesnt like it one bit and its stressing her out! Any help or advice is really appreciated

Are you sure she was grinding her teeth in pain?

My Timmy has ulcers and he does the quiet tooth grinding after his drops, because he seems to like having them. I think it must soothe his eye a bit.

I hold his eye open, and try to have a little "pocket" with the lower lid. Pop the drop in, and close the lids gently around the drop. No matter how hard you try, you will sometimes lose some.

I think sometimes they might have their eyes closed because the drops affect the vision, and maybe they are trying to clear this funny thing from their eye. Although some drops have hurt Timmy, and I've had to get different ones from the vet.
