Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ted's been admitted p28

Hi all

Ted's cheek's a bit wet under his right eye. He seems fine in himself though we've had to wash his bum tonight as he'd done a couple of big sticky poos that had got stuck in his fur :(. But he's behaving normally and is eating fine etc. It looks ever so slightly red and a little bit swollen, will take him to the vet tomorrow if it's the same. Do you think perhaps a bit of hay might have scratched him? Or Rosie his wifey bun? Can't see anything in there.

It could be conjunctivitis or it could be Dental related (blocked nasolacrimal duct)

The runny eye and mucky bum both point to 'Dental' being a likely suspect.

Thanks Jane, I did wonder about that actually as our bridge bunny Bobby had some dental issues and had to have his ducts flushed, but this was when we first got him and he was on museli. As soon as we swapped him to pellets we had no more issues. Ted and Rosie have always been on SS and they are both very good hay eaters and no dental issues up to now. But yes, it had crossed my mind. Martyn has had a really good look and can't see anything in there and it's only one side that's affected. Bob was affected both sides. I will report back tomorrow.

Sending vibes for Ted.

My mini-lop friend is prone to a weepy eye and squidgy poos, but he doesn't have the best of diets. :(

:cry:Poor fella. I wonder if lops are more prone? Bob was a lop as well, Rosie who is uppy eared has never had any problems. I know that's a very small sample size  just wondered

I think the shape of the mini-lop face, delightful though it is, may have something to do with it. Mr McFlurry's vet diagnosed conjunctivitis and gave him drops, but the problem is recurrent so I suspect dental trouble may be brewing.

It certainly is delightful :) but you might well be right. Hope Mr McFlurry is soon sorted out.

Just back from vets, not our usual chap but the other small animal specialist. He was very thorough, Ted's tummy sounds are a bit reduced so we have some Zantac syrup to help his guts. His eye is a bit inflamed but no obvious cause, put some dye in it to make sure no abrasions on the surface and to check that his tear ducts were working properly (the end of his little nose went green under the special light which proved one that). We have some Fucithalmic cream for that. Checked his temperature and all was well (up his bum poor lad), checked his teeth and found some tiny spurs, we need to keep an eye on his eating / dribbling / poos. Also have some priobiotics to put in the water for his tum. In with the vet about 25 mins, he was very good. Rosie bless her, sat good as gold in her basket on the floor  Ted had a dirty botty again this morning which we cleaned up for him, but fine when I got home from work. Tucked into his eye when we got back like a good bunny

Which vets do you use? We also bought Bee today for his vaccination for VHD bless him he's such a good boy. He doesn't really like being picked up but my god he's better to pick up than Bumble i tell you that! Bumble knows when you're going to do it and puts up such a fight! I bought them both together too.

We go to Chantry Vets, Pred the owner is brilliant with Ted and Rosie, we follow him round the surgeries  but he wasn't available today so we went to the other small furry specialist, Paul.

Ah yes i think i rang round them before i got Bumble neutered to decide which was the best vet to go with for her and I discounted them they didn't so bunny good as vets for pets but of course that was a phone call with receptionist so may not have got the whole picture there. And i think there are quite a few different branches of that one aren't there

There are branches in Wakefield centre, Outwood, Ossett, two in Castleford, Middleton, Normanton and Pontefract. Pred moves around them and we follow him. Obviously if it's an emergency he's not always there. We once saw a vet I didn't like if I'm honest but it was quite a few years ago now. I couldn't fault them otherwise.

Awww bless them. Glad they were brave little bunnies at the vets. Hope Ted is back to himself asap xx

Off topic (slightly) but we haven't had photos of Ted and Rosie for a while. Unless I've missed them.

No I don't think you've missed anything. I couldn't find the charging lead for my camera for a while  but Martyn found it the other day so I'm now recharged. Ted's a bit off it again this morning, he's eating but not much  need to keep an eye on him. Will take some more pics when he's back to normal.
