  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Really worried and think I've been stupid :(

I got paranoid after cleaning Elsa's bum earlier (she's normally so clean) and sprayed her with rear guard. I didn't dry her as thoroughly as I should have and now I'm back at uni. It's so cold outside. Is she at risk with a damp rear end? She was wet to the skin but I towel dried as much as I could, thought the hair dryer would stress her too much. She normally sits in the rain whenever it rains so she doesn't mind the wet but I really worried that I've put her at risk????

She may well struggle tonight. When they sit in the rain it is only the top layer of coat that gets wet and this dries fairly quickly. It can take many hours for their dense undercoat to dry which is why they shouldn't get wet to the skin except in an enpmergency.

I shoudnt have sprayed her, just got paranoid as I'd seen flies already. I did dry her as thoroughly as I could with a towel and this was around 10am this morning. Only about 2 square inches of fur on her underside was wet. I hope she'll be ok :(
