  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help with Runny eye

nicki

Warren Scout
Alice my bunny who has chronic gastro-intestinal problems has a very watery eye. She is otherwise ok today eating, drinking, droppings normal and active.
Is it worth wiping with cooled boiled water or would you leave until cause has been established? I know that it could indicate a number of probs.

Thanks,
Nicki:(

Bathing it with cooled boiled water is OK but she will need to be examined by a Vet tomorrow. Just make sure you are careful not to damage the delicate skin around the eye and that you carefully dab the area dry after bathing it.

Good luck xx

Thanks for responding,

Alice went to the vet yesterday. Her teeth were checked and the vet said they looked fine which I am pleased about given her very problematic tummy! She had her last dental in August. He prescribed antibiotic cream for her weepy eye and said if it was a blocked tear duct it may need to be treated under local GA if it didn't improve. However, it is looking a bit better today so I am hoping for the best.

Poor Alice, yet another medicine to add to her list.

Nicki:)
