Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bleeding scratch under Daisy's eye

Hi,

Daisy has dental problems and usually gets her tear ducts flushed at the same time as a dental. She often has bald patches at the corner of her eye where the tears ruin the fur. The vet has given us dermasol cream which we put on when her eyes are bad when we wipe them. I'm just home from work and she has scratched that area of fur and now it looks like it is bleeding slightly. Does anyone have any ideas on how to treat the scratch? Should i just bathe it in cooled water? I'm wary of putting the cream on it because she always tries to scratch the cream off!

Thanks,
Laura

If it's sore, is she on pain relief? That might stop the scratching.

I would say bathe it with water that has boiled, and then cool down to a warm temperature.

She isn't on any pain relief. She just did a binky though so she seems quite happy. I'm going to book her into the vets anyhow to get her teeth checked but i don't want to make the eye any worse before i get there!
