Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How soon to bond after neuter?

Alibunmum

I currently have two foster rabbits. Belle who has been spayed for a few months and Barney who was neutered. How long would you wait to bond following a neuter given the female its spayed so no worries about waiting til sperm have all died.

He came home last night, had eaten his packed lunch and promptly pooped all over the place. I have seen him drink and munch cabbage. [U[/U]

It takes 6-8 weeks for the hormones to die down. So I would say watch and wait and see what his behaviour does. Some bunnies, especially young bunnies who have been neutered super early, can be bonded very quickly, but others need to wait right until that time and even a bit longer.

That's great, thanks.:D Is there a recommended time for him to be healed enough. Girls I always leave 6 weeks but I wondered if boys can withstand the effort sooner.

You can see easier with a boy if they are healing because it is all on the outside. Physically they can heal very quickly, especially if they are younger. I had a little boy who had healed completely and was starting bonding 3 days after his neuter, but I've had to wait much longer for older males.

You're looking to make sure it's not red, not swollen, not bruised, or anything like that.

Brilliant, thanks Sky-O. It's harder doing this with foster buns and not my own!
