  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help with Lucys eye

Hi my rabbit Lucy is a 1 1/2 year old Dutch seems to have something wrong with her eye area we noticed it yesterday and I dont think its anything serious but we cant ring the vets till Monday. The fur around her eye seems to have fallen out its only about 1mm big, I dont no if she scratched herself to hard but her nails aren't to long or sharp she only had them cut a few weeks ago any ideas? walking dandruff?

Hmm usually fur loss around the eye can be attributed to excessive weeping. Does her eye or the skin underneath seem very wet? If so I would get her to the vet asap, she may be suffering from something minor like conjunctivitis or something more serious such as dental problems or myxomatosis. Either way its important that she gets some treatment as soon as possible. I would ask your vet to check her teeth with an otoscope just in case though.

no her eyes are clear and not watery, her nose is dry and from what ive seen her teeth are fine, could it be walking dandruff? Thanks
