  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hello. I noticed this mentioned in the Bunny's First Aid box Thread. I have a whole sachet (and a bit more) of this left over from when my bunny went into stasis a couple of months ago. I had been wondering when it would be useful, and/or if I should consult a vet before ever using it?
Thanks :)

My vet said its only needed when no food is going in. I wondered if I should give my bun some whilst he recovered but he said they don't need it when feeding again.

Ah, so it's something you might use before taking them to the vet, to prevent them going into stasis? I'll keep hold of it and bear that in mind. Thank you!

If they're not eating at all they probably need to go to the vets anyway. But it will be useful because you won't have to pay the high vet dispensing fees you can use your sachet and order some from the internet.

I would not automatically use it if a bunny has stopped eating without seeing a vet first. If bunny has stopped eating due to a blockage the worst thing you can do is force more food in. The vet needs to rule out any obstruction before syringe feeding :)
