Could my brave little man have some vibes please?

Well his snuffles (still not 100% sure that's what he has) seem a lot better now after approx. 1 and a half months on Septrin (antibiotics), his breathing is very nearly back to how it was like before this all began (it only seems to get bad when he's stressed out or frightened), and he isn't coughing/sneezing :)

I have spoken to the local vet...and they are reluctant to give him any more abx right now because basically, they reckon that if his symptoms return this time around, he'll need an x-ray for sure as it's probably not snuffles :? According to them snuffles should be completely gone after over a month of treatment. Is there any truth in this at all? Surely in some cases long term abx is needed? :? Perhaps I should mention that this vet isn't very rabbit savvy, and has clearly never actually come across a bun with pasteurella before...they all seem rather clueless to be frank :( They've never told me a thing about the disease, I've literally had to do all the research myself :? What do you think about this? They're still talking about tumours, but would abx have helped at all if this was the case? :?

Boris and I would very much appreciate some vibes that he stays healthy now and that his snuffles don't come back :( I think he may have scarring in his lungs because he's not like he was before, but he's so much better, if he could stay like this I would be so happy :) He's eating very well and seems happy

Sending loads of vibes for Boris, I was surprised about your vet's lack of knowledge until I saw that you're in another country! Is snuffles not very common over there or do not many people keep rabbits? I hope Boris gets the treatment he needs x

Rabbits are pretty popular pets here and I'm sure snuffles is quite common too, but most people just don't take their buns to the vets :( Hard for them to gain any experience when hardly anyone bothers to take their animals there :(

It seems to be especially bad where I live, I know in other cities there are rabbit specialists etc. Just not in my town :? And I don't really want to travel with him if I can avoid it as it stresses him out so much :(

Thanks for the vibes :)

Oh dear, big vibes for him.

My boy Ginger had snuffles. At least, I think that's what you call it, because I think 'snuffles' is a bunch of symptoms (discharge/sneezing/etc) rather than an actual illness in itself, isn't it? I still don't know what was causing it. We gave him antibiotics for 3 weeks but he didn't improve, so I had him have head x-rays done under GA. The vet rang to say his sinuses had been so badly damaged he would have been in constant pain, and he saw what he thought was a tumour as well so I made the decision to let him go while he was under the GA.

HOWEVER, as the antibiotics are helping your boy I'd say this isn't the case with him. I think the best thing to do is find a rabbit savvy vet and get their opinion, going the 'head x-ray' route if it's advised. Please don't lose heart though - loads of people have snuffle buns, who are for the vast majority of the time happy and healthy little things.

Loads and loads of luck and vibes to keep those snuffles at bay!

He can deffo have millions of Vibes from me. (he is one of my fav. RU buns, so handsome)

Hoppit: Well yes, snuffles is a bunch of symptoms, but in Boris' case the suspected culprit is pasteurella. It's a complex case because his symptoms have been quite unusual, no discharge at all, just coughing and sneezing (none of which he's doing atm). Hence the talk about tumours. His heart has been checked and sounded just fine, so it's not that (he's been breathing faster too which sometimes indicates heart problems). The antibiotics have helped every time he's had them, although in the beginning when the courses were probably too short :)evil:) the symptoms would come back after a few weeks.

There aren't any rabbit savvy vets near me but I've been in contact with one in Stockholm before (the capital of Sweden) and they seemed quite willing to help :) I'm going to phone them again this week I think and ask for advice :)

And Kermit: Thank you :) He's very handsome indeed if I may say so myself, I love him so much
