  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

It will mean he isn't being ruled by his hormones, his persnality will come out more and he will more than likely get tidier with his litter habits. :)

It will probably make him calmer and easier to litter train and it will also mean he can have a bunny friend! :)

Hey

Well neutering rabbits will reduce their hormones, sexual behaviour, agression, testicale cancer and will ease the process of litter training.

As rabbits live in groups in the wild, domestic rabbits need to also have a partner(s).
If in the future you consider taking on a spayed female bun.:
The bonding process becomes less stressful for you and the rabbits.

Neutering is highly recommended, I've got my buck neutered aswell.

What vets do you use ?
It's recommended to use a rabbit savvy vet as they'll be experianced enough to deal with rabbits and their problems, should they occur.
Ask your vet if they neuter and spay rabbits regularly.
The answer should be yes :)

Also they'll need to give them pain reliefs after your rabbit's been woken up.
And you should also purchase some to last a few days so your rabbit won't feel any pain from his massive operation.

I use NuVet, and they (peterborough) apparently have a european small animal speacialist surgeon they also do keyhole surgery, never used for rabbits before just hamsters and would take guineapigs there if needed too

Hm.
I'm not familiar with the vets but you could start a thread in the forum section 'Rabbit Chat' asking for a 'Rabbit Savvy Vet in xxxxxx' and also in the post say who's your current vet. And hopefully someone in your area can advise you a better vet. Or the current one you use :thumb:

It also reduces the risks of testicular cancer which is acyually more common than you'd think
